Many visitors and new residents do not have a credit card, or prefer not to use one. The good news: you can often still rent a car in Dubai. Here is how it works.
Why do rental companies ask for a credit card?
The card is mainly used for the security deposit — an amount the company keeps to cover traffic fines, Salik tolls or damage that may only appear after the rental. With a credit card, the company can block the amount without taking it from your account.
Can I rent a car with a debit card?
Many companies accept a debit card. The difference is that the deposit is usually taken from your account and refunded later, according to the company's policy, instead of only being blocked. Ask the company on WhatsApp which cards it accepts before you book.
Can I pay for a rental car in cash?
Some companies accept cash for the rental price, and some also accept a cash deposit. Others require a card. Every company sets its own rules, so confirm before you go.
Is a no-deposit rental easier without a credit card?
Yes. Some companies rent without any security deposit, so you do not need to block money on a card at all. On ClicknDrive, cars without a deposit show "No Deposit" on the car page, and the No Deposit Car Rental page lists them when they are available. You still pay the rental price, and any fines or tolls remain your responsibility.
What documents do I still need?
A valid driving licence (and an International Driving Permit if your country requires one), and your passport or Emirates ID. Requirements differ between companies, so send your documents to the company before you collect the car.
Find a car that suits you on ClicknDrive and ask the company about payment and deposit on WhatsApp — no booking fees and no online payment.
